How to share Google One storage with your family

Every Google Account gets 15 GB free, shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos, and most families run out within a year or two. Google One lets the plan manager share storage with up to five family members, so one plan can cover a whole household. The cheapest shareable plan is Basic 100 GB at ₹130 a month or ₹1,300 a year; the 30 GB Lite plan can't be shared. Each person's files stay private, and each member uses their own 15 GB before drawing on the shared pool. This page lists which Google One plans can be shared, how to set up Google One family sharing, what it costs per person, and how Subspace groups fit in.

How to set up Google One family sharing

You need a Google family group first, then you switch sharing on. The plan manager must be 18 or older, and the people you invite must live in the same country as you.

  1. 1On a computer, sign in to your Google Account and go to g.co/YourFamily.
  2. 2Click Get Started, then Create family group, and follow the steps to invite up to five members.
  3. 3Once they accept, go to one.google.com and click Settings.
  4. 4Turn on Share Google One with family.

What your family can and can’t see

Sharing storage doesn't share files. Google says your files aren't shared with the rest of your family, and they can't open them without your permission. Each member's files count against their own 15 GB first, then against the shared pool.

Depending on the plan, members can also share some extras, such as Gemini app access, AI credits and Workspace premium features on the higher AI plans. A few benefits, such as Google Store credit, stay with the plan manager.

To stop sharing, go to one.google.com, open Settings, choose Manage family settings and turn off Share Google One with family. Downgrading from 100 GB or above to Lite switches family sharing off automatically.

Cost per person when the plan is shared

Shared six ways, the 100 GB plan costs each person only a few rupees a week, and the yearly plan costs the same as ten monthly payments. The 2 TB plan suits families who back up every phone's photos and videos; Google AI Pro makes sense when someone in the family will use Gemini daily, and it also includes YouTube Premium Lite Individual.

Google One monthly cost per person, shared by 6

Monthly prices from the Google One India plans page (2 TB from Dec 2025 coverage), divided by six people: the manager plus five members. Rounded.

Google One monthly cost per person, shared by 6
Lite 30 GB (1 person only)₹59
Basic 100 GB, per person₹22
Premium 2 TB, per person₹108
Google AI Pro 5 TB, per person₹325

Choosing the right plan size

  • Two or three light users: Basic 100 GB is often enough for households that mainly use Gmail and Drive.
  • A family backing up several phones: a 2 TB plan, if Google offers it to you, or Google AI Pro's 5 TB.
  • Someone who will use Gemini at work or college: Google AI Pro, which also adds Gemini in Gmail and Docs.
  • Paying monthly vs yearly: yearly saves about two months' fees on Basic.
