What Mumbai searches for

Cameras and laptops lead equally in Mumbai's rental searches, with projectors a distant third. Neighbourhood searches such as laptops in Andheri and projectors in Thane show that people want gear close to home rather than a trip across the city in traffic. That is the gap a local, app-based rental service fills.

What Subspace Minutes rents in Bengaluru today

Until Mumbai opens, Bengaluru shows what the service looks like. Cameras start at ₹250/day and run to ₹3,095/day for pro bodies. Laptops start at ₹73/day, projector setups at ₹270/day, and GoPro and Insta360 cameras at ₹180/day. Owners list their gear, Subspace verifies it, and renters pay per day after an in-app KYC. The grid above shows the current Bengaluru catalogue; Mumbai prices will be set when it launches.

Creator and production kit

Mumbai's rental demand splits into two groups. Independent creators want a compact kit: a vlogging camera such as the Sony ZV-E10, a clip-on wireless mic and a phone or camera gimbal. Small production crews want full-frame or cinema-style bodies, fast primes, spare batteries and a stabiliser. In Bengaluru, Subspace Minutes lists both, from creator kits to bodies like the Sony A7S III and FX3, plus gimbals from ₹50/day and mics from ₹50/day. Whichever group you are in, rent the full kit from one place where you can, so you test everything together at pickup.

Renting through the Mumbai monsoon

From June to September, humidity is the biggest risk to rented gear in Mumbai. Lenses stored damp grow fungus, battery contacts corrode and laptops pick up moisture under the keyboard. Inspect gear harder in these months, and refuse anything that shows the signs below. Carry rented gear in a dry bag on the train, and never leave it in a damp backpack overnight.

How to rent responsibly in the meantime

Plenty of Mumbai shops rent cameras, laptops and projectors, and most are reliable. These habits protect you if something goes wrong.

  1. 1Pick a shop with recent reviews that gives you a written rental agreement.
  2. 2Hand over a photocopy of your ID marked with the date and ‘for rental to [shop name] only’, never the original.
  3. 3Photograph or video the gear from every side at pickup, with the shop owner in frame.
  4. 4Ask how much the deposit is, how it is paid back and how many days a refund takes.
  5. 5Agree in writing what counts as damage, and what a repair would cost, before you leave.
