New LPG connection: documents, deposit and how to apply

The deposit schedule on the PMUY portal covers 14.2 kg connections from the public-sector oil companies, so Bharat Gas, Indane and HP Gas charge the same deposits. The first refill is charged at your city’s current price. Ask your distributor for an itemised receipt that lists anything else, such as a stove or installation.

Adding the two deposits to the first refill gives the minimum you should expect to pay on day one, before a stove. The spread between cities is small because only the refill price changes.

Carry originals and one set of copies to the distributor:

• KYC form with a recent photograph and your signature.
• Proof of identity: Aadhaar, passport, PAN, voter ID, driving licence or a government ID.
• Proof of address: Aadhaar if it shows your current address; otherwise a utility bill, rent agreement, ration card or bank statement.
• Bank passbook or cancelled cheque if you want the subsidy credited (needed only for subsidy).

You deal with a distributor of the oil company that serves your address. Bharat Gas, Indane and HP Gas all work this way.

PMUY gives a deposit-free connection to adult women from poor households, and migrants can apply with a self-declaration under Ujjwala 2.0. About 10.33 crore PMUY connections had been issued by July 2025, and PMUY households get ₹300 back on each 14.2 kg refill.

If you already have a connection and are moving within the same area, you don’t need a new one. Oil companies let you transfer your connection online to another distributor of the same company serving your area. The government says this is free, and you can withdraw the request within three days.

Oil companies have warned about people who ask for money for new connections outside official channels. Pay only the distributor, against a receipt, and check the deposit amounts against the table above.
