New OTT releases in Hindi and the best OTT movies to catch up on

Bollywood films reach streaming on a predictable clock. Since August 2022, India's multiplex chains have required an eight-week gap between a Hindi film's theatrical release and its OTT premiere, so this Friday's big opening is roughly two months from your TV. Meanwhile, five paid apps compete for the rights, and two free options cover older films. People searching for the best OTT movies of 2024 are usually catching up on a year they missed. This guide covers both: how to see what is new each week, how to find the best of any year, and which plan each app needs for 4K or ad-free viewing. The grid above shows what is trending on OTT in India right now.

Where new Hindi releases stream

Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 and SonyLIV take most Bollywood theatrical releases and commission Hindi originals. Each buys films one at a time, so a studio's slate can be spread across several apps. Two legal free options also matter: Prime Video now carries a free, ad-supported section after Amazon folded MX Player into it in 2026, and Prasar Bharati's WAVES app is free. Both lean towards older films rather than this month's releases.

Plan you need for each app: cheapest vs 4K and ad-free

How to see what’s new on OTT each week

New Hindi films and series mostly drop on Thursday night or Friday. A weekly check takes a few minutes:

1Open JustWatch India and check the “new” page for each app you pay for, such as justwatch.com/in/provider/netflix/new.
2Look at each app’s New and Coming Soon rows; Netflix calls its tab New & Hot.
3Follow the apps’ official social accounts, which announce premiere dates a week or two ahead.
4For a film you saw advertised in cinemas, count eight weeks from its release date and search JustWatch around then.
5Add titles to your watchlist in each app to get a notification on release day.

Finding the best OTT movies of 2024, or any year

"Best of" lists are opinions; a ranking from millions of viewers is more useful. On JustWatch India, filter by your apps, set the release year to 2024 (or any year you missed) and sort by IMDb rating or popularity. You get a list that only includes films you can actually stream, with the app named on each poster. Narrow by genre if you want, for example thrillers or family films. Then check the language menu on the title page, because many South Indian hits from that year stream with Hindi audio.

What 4K and ad-free cost on each app

If you are buying a plan for new releases on a big TV, compare the top tiers. JioHotstar Premium is the cheapest ad-free 4K option at ₹299, with ads only on live sport and live shows. Prime Video now shows ads to Prime members unless you pay for the ad-free add-on. Netflix has no ads on any plan in India, but 4K needs Premium at ₹649. LIV Premium's ad-free promise excludes sports, reality and fiction shows.

Top-tier plan for 4K, per month

Official monthly prices checked 12 Oct 2026. Prime figure is Prime ₹299/month plus the ₹129/month ad-free add-on (add-on price per May 2025 reports). ZEE5 omitted because its 4K and ad-free tiers could not be confirmed.

Top-tier plan for 4K, per month
Netflix Premium	₹649
Prime + ad-free add-on	₹428
SonyLIV LIV Premium	₹399
JioHotstar Premium	₹299

Paying for fewer apps

Nobody needs five subscriptions at once. Two habits keep the bill down. First, rotate: subscribe monthly to the app with the film you want, watch what you saved up, then cancel before renewal. Second, share the expensive tiers. Netflix Premium split four ways comes to about ₹162 each within one household, and JioHotstar Premium about ₹75. Subspace groups let each member pay their share in the app; browse open groups on Subspace.

Frequently asked questions

How long after release do Bollywood movies come to OTT?

Which are the best OTT movies of 2024?

Tastes differ, so use a ranked filter: on JustWatch India, choose your apps, set the release year to 2024 and sort by IMDb rating. The list shows only films you can stream, with the app on each poster.

Which movies should I watch on OTT this week?

Start with the trending grid on this page, which refreshes hourly, then check each app’s New and Coming Soon rows.

Is there a free OTT app for Hindi movies?

Yes. Prime Video has a free, ad-supported section after absorbing MX Player, and Prasar Bharati’s WAVES app is free. Both carry mostly older films.

Which OTT plan is cheapest for 4K without ads?

JioHotstar Premium at ₹299 a month, which is ad-free except during live sport and live shows. Netflix Premium costs ₹649.
