Guide · Netflix autopay
Stop Netflix autopay, cancel your plan or delete the account
Netflix bills every month with no annual plan, so autopay keeps running until you stop it. There are three separate things you can do, and people often mix them up. Cancelling your membership stops future charges and keeps your account for later. Revoking the UPI AutoPay or card mandate stops the money at the bank end. Deleting your Netflix account permanently erases your profiles, viewing history and preferences. This guide covers all three with the steps from Netflix's help centre, plus what to do if Jio, Airtel or another partner bills you. At ₹499 a month for Standard, an unused plan costs real money.

Step 1: cancel the Netflix membership
Cancel first. Signing out or deleting the Netflix app does not cancel your account. You'll get a confirmation email once it's done.
- 1Sign in at netflix.com and open the **Manage your membership** page from your Account.
- 2Click or tap **Cancel**.
- 3Under Cancel, choose **Finish Cancellation**.
- 4Check your email for the confirmation. Your Payment History page shows the date the account closes.
Step 2: switch off the UPI AutoPay or card mandate
Once Netflix confirms the cancellation, clean up the payment side. For UPI AutoPay, open the UPI app you used to approve the Netflix mandate, find its AutoPay or Mandates section, select Netflix and revoke it with your UPI PIN. For a card, recurring charges run on an e-mandate with your bank; your card's net banking or app has a section to view and withdraw standing instructions.
RBI's 2026 e-mandate framework requires banks to let you withdraw any e-mandate at any time and to send a pre-debit alert at least 24 hours before each charge, with an option to opt out. Revoking the mandate on its own stops the money but not the membership, so do step 1 as well.
| Payment method | Cancel the plan | Stop the payment |
|---|---|---|
| UPI AutoPay | Netflix > Manage your membership > Cancel | UPI app > AutoPay / Mandates > Netflix > Revoke |
| Credit or debit card | Netflix > Manage your membership > Cancel | Bank app or net banking > e-mandates / standing instructions |
| Jio, Airtel or other partner | Contact the partner | Handled by the partner bill |
| Gift card or promo balance | Netflix > Manage your membership > Cancel | Access lasts as long as the balance covers |
Step 3 (optional): delete your Netflix account permanently
Netflix automatically deletes accounts 24 months after a membership is cancelled. To delete sooner, request it yourself. If the membership is still active, Netflix cancels it at the end of the current billing period and then deletes the account. You can undo the request from the Account page any time before that period ends; after deletion you would need a brand-new account.
On the web: open the Security area of your Account page, select Delete account, complete the Security Check, tick the confirmation box and select Permanently Delete.
In the Netflix app: tap My Netflix (lower right), tap your profile name at the top, tap Account, then under Settings tap Delete account. Complete the Security Check, tick the box and tap Permanently Delete. Netflix emails you to confirm the request.
If Jio, Airtel or another partner bills you
When Netflix comes bundled with a mobile, broadband or DTH plan, Netflix doesn't hold your payment. If you can't see a cancel option, go to the Membership section of your Account page: it either guides you through cancelling or tells you to contact your payment partner. Netflix can delete a partner-billed account only after the partner's cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period.
What a year of Netflix costs if autopay keeps running
Before deleting everything, check whether a cheaper plan solves the problem. Netflix keeps your viewing activity, ratings and game saves for 24 months after cancelling, so a cancelled account can be restarted with history intact; a deleted one can't. Netflix accounts are meant for one household, so plan your downgrade around who actually watches. If you split other subscriptions with friends, a group on Subspace shows each renewal and share in one place.

Frequently asked questions
How do I delete my Netflix account?
On the web, open the Security area of your Account page and choose Delete account. In the app, go to My Netflix > profile name > Account > Delete account. Complete the Security Check, tick the box and confirm Permanently Delete.
Does deleting my Netflix account stop autopay?
Deleting includes cancelling: an active membership is cancelled at the end of the billing period, then the account is deleted. Still revoke the UPI or card mandate afterwards so nothing remains on file with your bank.
Can I undo a Netflix account deletion?
Yes, until the end of your current billing period, from the Account page. After the account is permanently deleted, you would have to sign up again.
How long does Netflix keep my data after I cancel?
Netflix keeps viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, account details and game saves for 24 months after the account closes, then deletes the account automatically.
Will Netflix refund me if I cancel mid-month?
Netflix’s cancel article doesn’t mention refunds. It says you can keep watching until the account cancels at the end of the billing period, and you won’t be charged again.
Is revoking the UPI mandate enough to cancel Netflix?
No. It stops the payment, but the membership stays open until a renewal fails. Cancel on Netflix first, then revoke the mandate.
