LinkedIn Premium: is it worth paying for? A decision guide

LinkedIn Premium is easy to buy on impulse during a job hunt and easy to forget about afterwards. What you actually get with Premium Career is a short list: 5 InMail credits a month to message people outside your network, a full list of who viewed your profile over the past 365 days, applicant insights on job posts, LinkedIn Learning courses and AI help with writing your profile. Premium Business raises InMail to 15 a month and adds business insights. LinkedIn shows Indian prices only after you log in, and they differ by plan and billing period, so check the figure on your own account. This page helps you decide whether those features pay off for your situation, and how to get the most from a single month if you do buy.

InMail is the feature you’re really buying

For most job seekers the decision rests on InMail: the ability to message a hiring manager or recruiter you aren’t connected to. Five a month is enough for a focused search, not for mass outreach. Credits reset on your billing date, unused ones roll over up to a cap, and the whole balance drops to zero when Premium ends.

Who it pays off for

  • Active job seekers with a target list. If you know the 10–20 companies you want and can find the hiring manager’s name, five well-written InMails a month can open doors that applications don’t.
  • Career switchers. LinkedIn Learning courses plus applicant insights help you see how you compare with other applicants and fill skill gaps.
  • Freelancers and consultants. Premium Business’s 15 InMails and business insights help with outreach to new clients.
  • People who want to see who’s looking. If recruiters are viewing your profile, the 365-day list tells you which companies to follow up with.

For these people, one or two months during an active push is usually enough.

Who should skip it

  • Passive users who aren’t job hunting or selling. You’ll pay for features you never open.
  • Freshers applying through campus placements or referrals. A strong profile and alumni connections do more than InMail. See LinkedIn Premium for students for student-specific options.
  • Anyone expecting the badge alone to bring callbacks. Premium gives you tools; it doesn’t guarantee that recruiters will see or shortlist you.

The free route still works: complete your profile, turn on Open to Work for recruiters, send personalised connection requests and ask for referrals.

How to get the most from one month

LinkedIn may offer eligible members a free trial. You need a valid card, it converts to a paid plan automatically, and if you cancel a trial you may not get another for at least 12 months.

  1. 1Before you start, write a list of 15–20 target companies and roles, and polish your headline, About section and featured work.
  2. 2Start Premium (or the trial) only when you are ready to send outreach that week.
  3. 3Use your InMail credits on hiring managers and team leads, with short messages that reference the specific role.
  4. 4Check who viewed your profile every few days and follow up with relevant recruiters.
  5. 5Finish one LinkedIn Learning course that fills a gap in your applications.
  6. 6Set a reminder two days before renewal and cancel if your search is done. InMail credits disappear when Premium ends.

Frequently asked questions

Is LinkedIn Premium worth it for job seekers?

For an active, targeted search, often yes for a month or two: InMail lets you reach hiring managers directly, and applicant insights help you prioritise. For passive browsing or campus placements, usually not.

How much does LinkedIn Premium cost in India?

LinkedIn shows INR prices only after you log in, and they vary by plan (Career or Business) and billing period. Check the price on your own account before subscribing; we don’t quote a figure we can’t verify.

Does LinkedIn Premium help you get hired faster?

Not by itself. It gives you tools, mainly InMail, profile-viewer data and applicant insights. Results depend on how well you use them and on your profile and experience.

Can I try LinkedIn Premium for free?

Eligible members may get a free trial. You must add a card, it renews into a paid plan unless you cancel, and cancelling a trial can make you ineligible for another for at least 12 months.

What happens to my InMail credits if I cancel?

Premium features, including InMail credits, end at the close of your billing cycle, and any unused InMail balance becomes zero.

Should I choose Premium Career or Premium Business?

Career suits job seekers: 5 InMails a month, applicant insights and Learning. Business suits freelancers, founders and sales roles: 15 InMails and business insights on top.
