Spotify student plan in India: price, eligibility and sign-up

Spotify's student page lists the conditions:

• You are over 18.
• You are enrolled at an accredited higher-education institution, such as a college or university.
• You pass verification through SheerID, Spotify's third-party verification partner.

The intro offer is only for accounts that have never tried Premium. If you have had Premium before, you can still join Student; you just start at the regular ₹69 a month.

The whole process takes a few minutes if SheerID can match your college. Keep a dated college ID or fee receipt handy in case it asks for proof.

Every major music app now has a student price in India, all verified through enrolment checks. Spotify Student and Apple Music Student cost the same; YouTube Music Student is a little cheaper, and YouTube Premium Student costs more because it also removes ads from YouTube videos. Over a year, Spotify Student costs about half of Standard paid monthly.

You can stay on Premium Student for up to four years. Spotify's terms say that once you are no longer a student, the discount continues for up to 12 months from when you subscribed or last re-verified, as long as the plan is still offered. After that your plan switches to Premium Standard at the then-current monthly price unless you cancel first.

At that point, compare Standard's 12-month prepaid plan at ₹1,390, which avoids auto-renewal, with Platinum at ₹299 if you live with up to two other people who also want Premium. Our Spotify Premium price guide has the full list.

Premium Student is a single-account plan, so it can't be shared. If you live with friends at the same address, Platinum covers up to three accounts and comes to about ₹100 each per month. There are no active Spotify groups on Subspace right now, but you can start one to collect each flatmate's share automatically instead of chasing payments.
