From Reliance Energy to Adani Electricity
The licence area hasn't changed with the name: AEML serves Mumbai's suburbs plus Mira-Bhayandar. The island city is supplied by BEST, and Tata Power also supplies parts of Mumbai under its own licence; both bill separately.
Adani Transmission (now Adani Energy Solutions) bought Reliance Infrastructure's Mumbai generation, transmission and suburban distribution business in August 2018 and housed it in AEML, which serves over 3 million customers across about 400 sq km. The official domain is now adanielectricity.com. Ignore messages that ask you to pay through a link from an unknown number; AEML's own channels are the ones listed on this page.

How AEML’s residential tariff adds up
A Mumbai suburban bill has two per-unit charges, not one: an energy charge for the electricity and a wheeling charge for carrying it over AEML's wires. The state regulator MERC sets both in its multi-year order for 2025-26 to 2029-30. For 2026-27, residential rates fell from last year, mainly because the wheeling charge dropped from ₹2.93 to ₹2.28 a unit. Slabs are telescopic, and the monthly fixed charge for a single-phase home rises from ₹90 to ₹160 as consumption grows.
AEML's tariff also rewards paying early: a 1% discount for paying within 7 days, 0.25% (up to ₹500) for paying digitally, ₹10 for opting for an e-bill, and 2% on energy charges for prepaid meters. Pay late and a delayed payment charge of 1.25% applies for the first month. Fuel adjustment and electricity duty are added on top.
