Electricity bill payment offers, and the savings that actually last
Payment apps advertise cashback on electricity bills, but the most dependable saving often comes from your discom itself. Several state tariff orders give a rebate for paying on time and another for paying online, every single month, with no scratch card involved. App offers are real too, but they're run by the app or payment provider, change often and come with conditions. This page explains both, shows how a card convenience fee can cancel an offer, helps you find the service or consumer number on your current bill, and covers getting a receipt from PhonePe or Google Pay. Whichever application for electricity bill payment you use, these rules apply, including on Subspace.

The offers your discom already gives you
The Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020 say state commissions shall specify an incentive or rebate for paying online, and they require bills above ₹1,000 (or a limit the commission sets) to be paid online. Many tariff orders now carry these rebates, and they apply whichever app or portal you pay from, as long as you pay in full by the due date:
- Odisha (TPNODL and others): 4% of the bill for full digital payment by the due date, plus 10 paise a unit for paying on time.
- Bihar (NBPDCL, SBPDCL): 1.5% for prompt payment plus 1% for paying online.
- Kolkata (CESC) and West Bengal (WBSEDCL): 1% for paying by the due date plus another 1% online.
- Mumbai (Adani Electricity): 1% for paying within 7 days, 0.25% (up to ₹500) for digital payment, and ₹10 for an e-bill.
Pay late and you lose these, and usually pay a surcharge on top.
From current tariff orders (OERC FY 2026-27, BERC FY 2026-27, WBERC 2025-26, MERC MYT). Odisha also adds 10 paise/unit for on-time payment; AEML caps its digital rebate at ₹500 and adds ₹10 for e-bills.

How app cashback offers work
App offers on electricity bills are funded by the app, a bank or a card network, not by the electricity board. DGVCL in Gujarat says it plainly on its payment FAQ: it doesn't provide any offers on online bill payments, and offers by payment providers are their responsibility alone.
Typical conditions include a first payment on the app, a specific payment method or bank card, a minimum bill amount, a cap on the reward, and rewards paid as scratch cards, coins or vouchers rather than cash. Before you pay, open the offer's terms in the app and check three things: whether your payment method qualifies, the maximum reward, and when it's credited. Subspace doesn't publish standing cashback amounts for bills; any offer running shows in the app at the time.
Fees can cancel out an offer
A cashback is worth less if you paid a fee to get it. Google Pay's help pages say there's no convenience fee for bills paid from a bank account by UPI, but a convenience fee may apply on credit, debit or RuPay cards, shown before you pay. Discom portals publish their own charges too: DGVCL's portal is free by UPI or debit card up to ₹2,000, then charges 0.85% plus GST, and charges 0.85% on credit cards. Compare the fee on the payment screen with the reward before you confirm.
How to find the service number in your current bill
Every board names its account number differently, which is the commonest reason a payment app can’t find your bill. Look for these names near the top of your bill:
| Board | Name on the bill | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu (TNPDCL) | Consumer / service connection number | Usually 12 digits |
| Telangana (TGSPDCL / TGNPDCL) | USC (Unique Service Connection) No. | 9 / 8 digits |
| Andhra Pradesh (APSPDCL) | Service number | 13 digits |
| Delhi (BSES / Tata Power-DDL) | CA number | 9 / 11 digits |
| Kolkata (CESC) | Customer ID (not consumer no.) | 11 digits |
| Uttar Pradesh (UPPCL discoms) | Account ID | 10 digits |
| Madhya Pradesh (MP West) | IVRS number | N + 10 digits |
| Chhattisgarh (CSPDCL) | BP number | 10 digits, starts with 1 |
Receipts on PhonePe, Google Pay and Subspace
PhonePe electricity bill payment receipt: PhonePe's help centre says a payment receipt is sent to your registered email (if verified) for every bill payment. For the board's own invoice, use the board's website or contact it with the Transaction Reference ID. Statements are under History → My Statements.
Google Pay electricity bill payment: open Bills & Recharges → Electricity, pick your board, enter the consumer number or customer ID exactly as on your bill, review the amount and due date, then pay. If a payment fails, Google Pay asks you to wait two to three days for the refund.
Every Bharat Connect payment carries a 20-character transaction reference, which is what the board or Bharat Connect's complaint form will ask for. On Subspace, pick your board, enter the number, pay by UPI, and keep the reference shown on success.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best application for electricity bill payment?
Any app on Bharat Connect (BBPS) can fetch and pay your bill. Choose one that shows fees before you pay, saves your consumer number and gives a receipt with the Bharat Connect reference. Subspace does this, alongside other bills. See [the best bill payment app](/pay/best-bill-payment-app).
Are there real electricity bill payment offers?
Yes. The most reliable are discom rebates in tariff orders, such as 4% for digital payment in Odisha and 1% on time plus 1% online at CESC. App cashback offers exist too, but they are set by the app or payment provider and change often.
How do I get my PhonePe electricity bill payment receipt?
PhonePe emails a receipt to your verified email for bill payments. For the board’s invoice, visit the board’s website or share the Transaction Reference ID with its customer care. Statements are under History → My Statements.
How do I pay an electricity bill on Google Pay?
Open Bills & Recharges → Electricity, choose your board, enter the consumer number or customer ID from your bill, review the amount and pay. Card payments may carry a convenience fee shown before you pay.
How do I find the service number in my current bill?
Look near the top of the bill for the board’s account ID: consumer or service number, CA number, USC number, BP number, IVRS number or account ID, depending on the board. The table on this page lists common ones.
Does the electricity board give cashback for online payment?
Boards don’t run cashback, but many give a rebate for paying online and on time under their tariff order. DGVCL, for example, states that it runs no offers and that payment-provider offers are the provider’s responsibility.
