Guide · Redeem Apple Music
How to redeem an Apple Music code or App Store card in India
There's no special "Apple Music card". Apple Music is paid from your Apple Account balance, and in India you fund that balance by redeeming an App Store card (the cards and codes you see sold in India) or by adding funds with UPI, net banking or a card. Once redeemed, the balance pays for Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ and App Store subscriptions. Apple also runs offers, such as the first month free for new Apple Music subscribers, which apply through the same account. This guide has Apple's current redemption steps for iPhone, Mac and Windows, what to do when a card is rejected, and how far a balance stretches at Apple Music's India prices.

What you can redeem and pay with in India
Apple's payment-methods page lists what an Indian Apple Account accepts. Apple Account balance comes from redeeming an App Store card or adding funds, and balance can pay for subscriptions such as Apple Music, Apple Arcade and Apple TV, plus iCloud+ and App Store app subscriptions. Some purchases still require a card on file even when balance pays, and balance can't be used to send gifts. Family members in Family Sharing can't spend your balance.
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| App Store card / gift code | Redeem in the App Store to add Apple Account balance |
| Add funds | Top up Apple Account balance (net banking can be used only for adding funds) |
| UPI | Pay directly |
| Visa or Mastercard | Pay directly |
Redeem a card or code on iPhone or iPad
Find the 16-digit code on the back of the card; you may need to peel or gently scratch off a label.
- 1Open the **App Store** and tap your photo, initials or the My Account button. Sign in if asked.
- 2Tap **Redeem Code**.
- 3Tap **Use Camera** and follow the on-screen instructions, or tap **Enter Code Manually**.
- 4Tap **Redeem**. The value is added to your Apple Account balance.
Redeem on a Mac, Windows PC or from an email
Mac: in the App Store, click your name in the sidebar (or Sign In), click Redeem Code, then use the camera or enter the code manually.
Windows PC: open the Apple Music or Apple TV app, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, click Redeem, and follow the instructions.
Emailed gift: open the email and tap Redeem Now.
Once the balance is in your account, start or renew Apple Music from the Music app. Apple says some subscriptions may not be charged to balance, so keep another payment method on file as a backup.
When Apple rejects the code
Apple's troubleshooting covers four messages. Card is not valid: make sure it's not an Apple Store gift card (grey, white, silver or gold), enter the code that starts with X manually, and watch lookalike characters like B and 8, O and 0, S and 5. Already redeemed: sign out of the App Store on all devices and back in to refresh the balance. Not activated: the retailer didn't activate it; go back to them. Must be redeemed in a different country: cards only work in the country where they were bought, so a US card won't redeem on an Indian account. For a scratched, unreadable code, contact Apple Support with photos of the card and the receipt.
How far a balance goes, and real “free” Apple Music
There is no working free Apple Music redeem code on coupon sites; those codes are used, foreign or fake. The genuine no-cost route is Apple's own first month free for new subscribers. After that, Student at ₹69 is the cheapest solo plan, and the Family plan (₹229) covers up to six people through Family Sharing, which is how an Apple Music group on Subspace splits it.
Illustrative: a ₹1,000 Apple Account balance divided by official monthly prices (apple.com/in, Oct 2026), counting whole months only.
