How to pay less for YouTube Premium in India
Search for a YouTube Premium coupon and you'll land on pages full of codes that fail at checkout. YouTube doesn't publish discount codes for Premium in India. The real ways to pay less are already on its own price list: a free trial for eligible new members, a ₹89 student plan, the cheaper Premium Lite tier, a 12-month prepaid pack and two shared plans. The individual plan costs ₹149 a month, while the family plan costs ₹299 for the manager plus five household members, about ₹50 a head when every seat is filled. Below, each option is ranked by what one person actually pays per month, with the catch attached to each, and how a Subspace group takes care of the monthly split.
- Individual
- ₹149/mo
- Student
- ₹89/mo
- Family (6 people)
- ₹299/mo

Why YouTube Premium coupon codes fail
Coupon sites list "YouTube Premium coupon codes" because the search gets traffic. Premium is billed by Google, and a monthly plan has no public promo-code box to paste them into. What does exist:
- Free trials for eligible new members, currently one month at ₹0 in India. They appear automatically on youtube.com/premium when your account qualifies, and only on monthly plans. Google allows one introductory trial per 12 months and one per payment method. Prepaid packs never come with a trial.
- Redeem codes that Google or a partner sends you, usually with a device or a promotion. They're tied to that offer and often to the account it was sent to. See how to redeem a YouTube Premium code.
- Student pricing once you pass verification.
A "free code" copied from a public site has already been used, has expired or was issued for another country. At best you lose ten minutes. At worst the page asks for your Google password or a small "verification" payment, which is how account-theft scams start.
Every legal way to pay less, ranked by cost per person
The ranking changes once you divide shared plans by the number of people using them. Paying alone, the 12-month prepaid pack at ₹1,490 is the cheapest full Premium option at about ₹124 a month. Students drop to ₹89. The two-person plan at ₹219 costs about ₹110 each. The family plan beats everything at roughly ₹50 per person, provided all six seats are used.
The one-month prepaid pack (₹159) costs more than the auto-renewing plan. You pay ₹10 extra for not having a mandate on your card or UPI.

| Prepaid, 3 months | ₹153 |
| Individual (auto-renew) | ₹149 |

Splitting the family plan on Subspace
The family plan is the cheapest per head, but one person pays the full ₹299 every month and then has to collect from everyone else. On Subspace, each member pays their share through the app, so the manager isn't left chasing UPI transfers. YouTube's terms say family members must live in the same household as the manager, so build the group with the people you live with: flatmates, parents, siblings.
- 1Open the [YouTube Premium groups page](/groups/youtube-premium) on Subspace and look for an open group, or create your own.
- 2Check the live per-member price before you join. It is the plan price divided by the number of seats.
- 3The manager starts the family plan on YouTube and sends invites from the family settings.
- 4Each member accepts with their own Google account, so history, playlists and recommendations stay separate.
- 5Members pay their share on Subspace each cycle instead of sending money to the manager.
Cheaper if you only use part of Premium
Many people pay for full Premium but use only one feature. Premium Lite at ₹89 removes ads from most non-music videos, and since February 2026 it includes background play and downloads in India. Music videos and Shorts still carry ads. If music is what you care about, YouTube Music Premium costs ₹119 a month, ₹59 for students and ₹179 for a family of six. Before you renew, look at what you watched last month and pick the smallest plan that covers it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a YouTube Premium coupon code that works?
No public one. YouTube does not issue general promo codes for Premium in India. Real codes come from Google or a partner promotion and are tied to that offer. The legal ways to pay less are the student plan, the 12-month prepaid pack, Premium Lite and the two-person or family plans.
Can I get YouTube Premium 2 months free?
Sometimes. The standard India offer is a one-month trial at ₹0 for eligible new members. Google’s help page says trial lengths vary and that extended trials are occasionally offered, limited to one every three years; in 2026 some Indian users were shown two months. If you qualify, the offer appears on youtube.com/premium when you sign in. Prepaid plans never include a trial.
How much does YouTube Premium cost per person on the family plan?
The family plan costs ₹299 a month for the manager plus up to five household members. Split six ways that is about ₹50 each. With four people it is about ₹75 each.
Is prepaid YouTube Premium cheaper than monthly?
Only the 12-month pack. At ₹1,490 it works out to about ₹124 a month, against ₹149 for the auto-renewing plan. The one-month prepaid pack costs ₹159, which is more.
Who can get the YouTube Premium student plan?
Students at eligible institutions who pass verification. It costs ₹89 a month and includes the same features as individual Premium.
Can I split YouTube Premium on Subspace?
Yes. Join or create a YouTube Premium group on Subspace and each member pays their share in the app. YouTube requires family plan members to live in the same household as the manager, so set it up with people you live with.
