How to redeem an Amazon gift card or shopping voucher in India
Redeeming an Amazon gift card takes under a minute once you know which kind of code you have. An Amazon Pay Gift Card has a 14-character claim code and goes into your Amazon Pay balance. An Amazon Shopping Voucher has a 13-character code and goes into a separate Amazon Vouchers balance for physical products. Entering the wrong number, such as the 16-digit reference ID printed on some cards, is the most common reason a redemption fails. First, check which code you have
Amazon Pay Gift Card claim codes mix letters and numbers, for example AS25-NZ1JX-CZCP5. Physical cards also print a reference ID of 16 numbers; that is not the code and shouldn't be entered. Shopping Voucher codes are 13 characters long, not counting hyphens. Voucher balance never shows up in your Amazon Pay balance, and you can't convert one into the other.

Redeem an Amazon Pay Gift Card in the app
If the card came by email, you can also tap Add to my Account in the email itself. On the website, the Amazon Pay Gift Card section has an Add Gift Cards to Balance option that takes the same 14-character code.
- 1Open the Amazon app and tap the Amazon Pay icon.
- 2Select Gift Cards & Vouchers from the Amazon Pay page.
- 3Tap Add Gift Card.
- 4Enter the 14-character claim code, not the 16-digit reference ID.
- 5Tap Add Gift Card to Balance. The value moves into your Amazon Pay balance.
Add an Amazon Shopping Voucher
Shopping Vouchers, including the ones sold on Subspace, use a separate screen. Once added, the voucher balance appears as a payment option at checkout for eligible physical products. It can't pay for recharges, bills, tickets, digital content or other gift cards.
- 1Visit amazon.in/vouchers, or in the app go to Amazon Pay, then Gift Cards & Vouchers, then Amazon Vouchers.
- 2Enter the voucher code in the Add new section.
- 3Tap Add to save the voucher to your account.
- 4At checkout, select your voucher balance as the payment option. Pay any difference with another method.
Check your Amazon gift card balance
For Amazon Pay Gift Cards, the value sits in your Amazon Pay balance; Amazon's help pages point you to Your Transactions to track it, with a full breakdown on your Amazon Pay statement. For Shopping Vouchers, open the Amazon Vouchers section under Gift Cards & Vouchers. Each voucher shows its remaining amount and expiry there.
Validity differs slightly by type, so check before a big purchase. The chart sets out the validity Amazon states for each.

Fixing common redeem errors
- "Gift Card is expired": contact Amazon customer service and ask to extend the expiry date.
- "Already used or redeemed": check Your Transactions; someone in the family may have added it to their account.
- Card from your employer or a company: ask them to confirm the card was activated.
- Physical card just bought: physical gift cards activate about 60 minutes after delivery.
- Monthly limit reached: Amazon applies calendar-month limits on adding gift cards, which reset on the 1st.
- Identity check: Amazon may ask for Aadhaar OTP verification through DigiLocker, depending on the amount and how often you add cards.

Where do I enter an Amazon gift card code?
In the Amazon app, tap Amazon Pay, choose Gift Cards & Vouchers and tap Add Gift Card. Shopping Vouchers go under Amazon Vouchers, or at amazon.in/vouchers.
Why does my Amazon gift card code not work?
The usual reasons are entering the 16-digit reference ID instead of the 14-character claim code, an expired or already-used card, a corporate card that wasn’t activated, or a monthly limit. Physical cards activate about an hour after delivery.
How do I check my Amazon gift card balance?
Gift card value sits in Amazon Pay balance, which you can track in Your Transactions. Shopping Voucher balance shows separately under Amazon Vouchers.
Can I move a Shopping Voucher into Amazon Pay balance?
No. Amazon says voucher balance cannot be transferred or converted to Amazon Pay balance, and it can’t move to another account.
Can I use an Amazon gift card to pay for Prime?
Amazon accepts Amazon Pay balance for Prime membership, and gift card value goes into that balance. Shopping Vouchers are only for physical products, so they can’t pay for Prime.
Can I get an expired Amazon gift card extended?
For Amazon Pay Gift Cards, Amazon’s help page says to contact customer service to extend the expiry date.
