Cancelling HBO in India: the JioHotstar add-on and HBO Max abroad
People still search for how to cancel HBO Go, but that isn't how HBO is sold in India any more. Since 15 April 2026, HBO Max has been available in India only inside JioHotstar, as an add-on pack that JioStar prices from ₹49 a month; JioHotstar calls itself the exclusive home for HBO Max in the market. Before that, HBO shows reached Indian viewers through a JioHotstar licensing deal. So for most readers, cancelling HBO means changing a JioHotstar plan. If you subscribed to HBO Max while living or travelling abroad, that's a separate account billed by HBO Max or an app store, with its own steps. This guide covers both cases.

Cancel HBO Max on JioHotstar
The HBO Max hub sits inside JioHotstar, and plans are managed from the same subscription screen. These are JioHotstar's steps for plans bought directly with card, net banking, Paytm or UPI. If the HBO Max pack isn't listed separately on that screen, use the help options under Help & Settings to ask JioHotstar how to stop it without losing your base plan.
- 1Open JioHotstar and tap **My Space**.
- 2Tap **Help & Settings**, then **Account Settings** (**Subscription and Devices** on a browser).
- 3Tap **Cancel**. A pop-up shows how long your plan is valid for.
- 4Tap **Cancel Auto renewal**. Allow up to 24 hours for it to process.
If you subscribed to HBO Max outside India
An HBO Max account you opened in another country is billed separately and won't appear in JioHotstar. HBO Max's help centre says: if HBO Max bills you directly, go to HBOMax.com/subscription in a browser, sign in and choose to cancel, then note your expiry date. You can keep streaming until the end of that billing period. If you subscribed in the HBO Max iPhone app, cancel under iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions. If Google Play bills you, cancel in Play's Subscriptions. If a TV, internet or mobile provider bills you, cancel with that provider.
| How you watch HBO | Where to cancel | After cancelling |
|---|---|---|
| HBO Max hub on JioHotstar (direct payment) | JioHotstar > My Space > Help & Settings > Account Settings | Access until plan end; no partial refunds |
| JioHotstar via Google Play | Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions | Refunds handled by Google |
| JioHotstar via Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL recharge | Nothing to cancel | Ends with the pack |
| HBO Max abroad, billed by HBO Max | HBOMax.com/subscription | Streams until the billing period ends |
| HBO Max abroad, billed by Apple or Google Play | App-store subscription settings | Store rules apply |
What a year of HBO on JioHotstar can cost
Because HBO Max is an add-on, your total depends on the base plan underneath it. Paying Super or Premium monthly for a year costs much more than the annual versions, and some people cancel HBO when switching to an annual base plan would fix the cost instead. JioStar's announcement doesn't say which base plans already include the HBO Max hub, so check the add-on screen in the app before paying twice.
JioHotstar base prices from JioStar’s January 2026 plan announcement. The last bar assumes the HBO Max add-on at its ₹49 starting price every month (JioStar, April 2026); whether your plan needs the add-on is shown in the app.
| Premium, monthly × 12 | ₹3,588 |
|---|---|
| Premium, annual | ₹2,199 |
| Super, monthly × 12 | ₹1,788 |
| Super, annual | ₹1,099 |
| Mobile annual + add-on at ₹49/mo | ₹1,087 |
After you cancel
On JioHotstar, cancelling auto-renewal keeps your access until the end of the paid period, and JioHotstar doesn't refund or credit partly used periods. If you're on an older plan, remember that existing subscribers keep their pre-January 2026 price only while auto-renew stays on.
If you paid by UPI, revoke the JioHotstar mandate in your UPI app after the plan ends. To keep watching HBO shows for less, a JioHotstar group on Subspace lets you split a Premium plan's 4 screens instead of paying solo.
